One Mom’s Story: Kristina and Baby David
“Life was chaos.” That’s how poor Kristina describes the first two weeks of her son, David’s, life. David was crying—crying a lot. Kristina and her husband felt terrible, because they could see from David’s distress that he was uncomfortable, but they couldn’t figure out how to make him feel better. “He would cry after every feeding, arch is back and there were plenty of times he’d throw up after feeding. It was miserable for him and for us. We could tell he was uncomfortable. He hardly ever burped, so we knew it was a gas issue too.”
Kristina brought David into the pediatrician to see if he could tell what was going on. “His pediatrician prescribed the generic form of Zantac when he [David] was only two weeks old. We gave it to him three times and each time he either spit it out or threw up the formula we put it in. It was not something I was very happy with so we stopped using it and I didn’t want to give him medicines.” At this same time, they were switching David from breast milk to formula, which also proved to be challenging. As Kristina says, “He also had a hard time switching to formula and we had to go through several formulas to get the right one.”
She goes on to say that, “We were getting desperate for something to help with David’s reflux and gas issues that were causing him to be colicky.”
So Kristina did what every frantic, sleepless, new mother did—she started to research cures for colic and tummy issues. And one thing kept popping up—Colic Calm. Friends recommended the homeopathic solution, and she read testimonials online. Kristina loved that it was natural, and since she didn’t feel comfortable giving him the prescribed reflux medication, thought it was worth a try to see if would help David’s issues.
Kristina received the Colic Calm and at first, “. . . he got a 1/2 dose before feeding. We did that for a few weeks. Now [at interview time David was one month old] he gets a full dose when he needs it.” When David was first given Colic Calm, Kristina was still trying to find the right formula for him. She said that as they switched from one formula to another, “Colic Calm helped with those transitions too. We finally got the formula correct but he still has issues sometimes with upset tummy/gas.”
At interview time, Kristina was using Colic Calm for colic and reflux. She says, “We are using it for both, but mainly now it’s for his reflux and general uncomfortableness he may experience. When I give him Colic Calm now, he is so excited to get it and he is a different baby once it kicks in. He gladly takes it because, even though he’s still little, I think he knows it will make him feel better!”
