One Mom’s Story: Melanie and Baby Amelia
When Amelia was born, all was perfect. Melanie’s third child, she says that Amelia, “was an easy baby that never cried unless she needed something.” Such was life for the first two weeks of Amelia’s life, but then she “woke up.”
“Once she turned two weeks old it was like she came alive to all of these discomforts. We were grateful that Amelia was a summer baby because we would have to walk her up and down the sidewalk, screaming all the way, to get her to fall asleep at night. We would stand holding her, bouncing her in the living room while she eventually cried herself to sleep. It wasn’t that “I’m bored” cry, or an “I’m hungry” cry. This was a baby who was clearly in pain as her tummy was hard as a rock and her back would arch as she’d scream. During the day, the only way to calm her was to wear her in a baby carrier and run the vacuum,” describes Melanie.
Her middle child had been colicky, so Melanie knew the signs and started to look for a solution. She says, “My second child was colicky and we never found anything to help him. Unfortunately I didn’t discover Colic Calm back then. When Amelia started showing the symptoms of colic I just started doing internet searches for anything to help. I was determined to have a better first year with her than with her older brother. I discovered Colic Calm and poured over reviews and looked into where we could purchase it. I made my husband make a pit stop on our way to our eldest’s t-ball game that same day.”
Amelia was about four weeks old when she received her first dose of Colic Calm—and it worked! Melanie says she gave it to Amelia, “usually . . . before a feeding. It was easier to get her to take it when her tummy was full and it seemed more effective, but other times I just gave it to her when she was particularly fussy or seemed to be in pain.”
Colic Calm turned their summer around. Melanie says, “I was able to enjoy the end of the summer with my older kids before they both went off to school for the first time and we were finally able to establish a night time routine that didn’t include pacing the sidewalk. My baby no longer arched her back and cried out in pain. We did implement a few other things during this time to help with her tummy issues (eliminating dairy from my diet, for one), but I think they all worked together to help make our lives easier.”
At interview time, Amelia was almost 8 months old. Melanie says, “I use Colic Calm on occasion when I’ve ruled out other reasons for discomfort and think she may have a belly ache. I actually finished the first bottle myself when I was having stomach discomfort!”
